After nearly 90 minutes of discussion, the two boards voted in a roll call of "yes" votes. First, the 11 members of the board of governors cast their affirmative votes. Then, 51 of the 59 members of the board of trustees gave their approval. The remaining eight trustees either abstained or were absent.

UMDNJ officials said they are continuing to work on sorting out the future of their university as it prepares to break up.
